Swap is much faster when has own partition instead of single file. And separate partition for user's files, settings and preferences allows you to reinstall the whole system and have your old desktop (including all settings for all the programs, icons, wallpapers.... browsing history, passwords...trash in the recycle bin...) just before changing the system. That's one of the reasons I cannot get with win things. When I have win I reinstall it all the time (not my fault that it get broken every two months) so I cannot fit into allowed number of instalations. That law and eula things are too complicated for my tiny brain.
