Hey there, Smiley here, blogging from my other computer. This post is about how you can create an “Ignore List” like in virtual worlds and Instant Messengers, and how to create different “Statuses” that could filter certain contacts from reaching your phone.
Ignore lists
If you have this annoying caller with a weird number you don’t recognize, or if one of your friends is bothering you with tons of phone calls, why not give them the silent treatment? (NOTE: The following tweak is currently only available on Motorola phones, by what i’ve tested.)
- Open the main menu, and navigate to your phone book.
- Open the options, and create a new category of contacts called “Ignored”, “Ignore List”, “Ignore this contact”, etc.
- Change the ringing preferences to “Silent”, and make sure, if there’s a vibration style field, that it is set to either “Off” or “Silent”.
- Add any unwanted contacts, or add unrecognized-number people with the name “Unknown Contact”, “Unknown”, etc. to your phone book and set them in the ignore category.
- Voila! That was easy, and from now on, the phone will respond to these callers as if you had it on the normal “Silent” mode, by only showing the caller notification on the screen. No ring, no vibration. Easy as a piece of cake.1
Statuses
Sometimes you just want callers to know you’re busy, and not even have the phone vibrate for them, yet still have it on. And sometimes, you want just your family or best friend to call. Yep, that’s possible too. (NOTE: The following tweak is currently available for many phone brands, yet my method works only on Sony Ericsson phones. The below tutorial is much more detailed due to the fact the phone i’m using now is a Sony Ericsson K510i mobile phone.)
- Open the Main Menu.
- Navigate to “Settings”, and click the center/select button.
- Choose “General”.
- Choose “Profiles”.
- Choose one of the existing profiles, or create a new one if possible.
- Splits to two paths:
- If you would like to create a “Busy” profile that declines all callers:
- Set “Ring volume” to “0″.
- Set “Silent mode” to “Off”.
- Set “Increasing ring” to “Off”.
- Set “Vibrating alert” to “On if in Silent”.
- Set “Key sound” to your liking. (”Silent”, “Click” or “Tone”.)
- Set “Divert calls” to “Off”.
- Set “Accept calls” to “None”.
- Set “Answering mode” to your liking.
- Set “Profile name” to “Busy”, “Not Available”, etc.
- Voila! You’re done. From now on, all calls while this profile is activated will be declined automatically.
- If you would like to create a “Family only” or list-specified mode:
- Set “Ring volume” to your liking.
- Set “Silent mode” to “Off”.
- Set “Increasing ring” to your liking.
- Set “Vibrating alert” to your liking.
- Set “Key sound” to your liking. (”Silent”, “Click” or “Tone”.)
- Set “Divert calls” to “Off”.
- Set “Accept calls” to “Only from list”.
- Click the right button called “Edit”.
- Choose “New” to add a new contact or group to the list.
- Navigate your contacts to select one to add and click the center/select button.
- Click the right button called “Groups”, navigate your groups to select one to add and click the center/select button.
- Set “Answering mode” to your liking.
- Set “Profile name” to “Family Only”, “List Only”, etc.
- Voila! You’re done. From now on, all calls while this profile is activated that are not in the list will be declined automatically.
- If you would like to create a “Busy” profile that declines all callers:
There, hope this is enough for ya! Enjoy!
