Before I begin, I want to say a quick opening fact: PCs SUCK!.
Why did I just say that? Well, let’s look at the facts, shall we?
- Windows is very user unfriendly, I can safely say it after 14 miserable years of using it. (Why yes, I did use Windows 3.1 when I was 1 year old
) - Although I install tons of software, my computer always gets to the point of no-return, and yes-format without ANY way to back up my super-important stuff. This time I got ahead of time by not installing unsafe stuff, but it’s still very very annoying. I mean, Windows, why do you care if I have about, 100-200 programs installed? ((and that’s not true, most applications for some reason forget to tell Windows they’ve checked-out when I uninstalled them.)) And so, I gotta format every 2-3 years. Annoying, huh? I gotta start-over every 2-3 years without a complete backup, just some stuff I used to have. Need to adjust ALL settings again, install needed software again, restore backups… Macs DON’T NEED TO BE FORMATTED EVERY 2-3 YEARS! THEY SURVIVE EVEN UP TO 8!
- Windows has over 144,000 unique viruses created up-till-now. Mac has 0.1
- My system currently cannot render anything 3D, can’t play normally-formatted videos, and freezes every 10-15 seconds due to serious and critical kernel2 errors, which were, for the first time, not caused by me!. Yes, I used to “tweak” the system files, but this installation I did nothing that is not provided as an option by Microsoft through official tweak tools. (or how they call it, “power tools”)
- We gotta defragment every once in a while, or we get screwed, like I am now - I can’t. I simply can’t. Windows won’t let me. The stupid NTFS filesystem3 it uses is so stupid, we gotta spend an hour a week just to “move books around the virtual library to where they belong”, or Windows will suddenly say “Oh to hell with it, I QUIT!” and stop doing so.
- Windows, for some reason, takes too much system power as an OS. Tests indicate, even if I run Linux with tons of applications working, it’s faster than Windows working in Safe Mode without any applications.
And so, I can’t wait for my Mac. If this happens even ONE more time, I will GLADLY invest another 2,250NIS4 just so I could get it already from the Israeli Apple Store.5
I need to finally format my PC today, and for some reason, I have a very bad feeling about this. I think i’ll ask a friend to get me one of those hacked versions of (Mac OS X) Leopard you can install on PCs. At least i’ll have a “half-Mac” until some relative goes to the US and gets me one.
So, in conclusion, PCs SUCK! Macs RULE!
- Of course some exist, like about 100 maximum, but Time Machine makes up for it by having an option to revert to just how the Mac was back then, including all files [↩]
- Every OS’ core [↩]
- Yes, I don’t have a clue what it means too [↩]
- Approximately 608$ [↩]
- Not really, but if I did have 2,250NIS as extra, I would get another PC too. Just for server stuff that require a PC. [↩]
Hey Smiley - Man, do I feel for ya. I’ve been a pretty die-hard Mac fanatic for a few years now. Currently running SL on a first-gen MacBook Pro (the one with the ATA video card, not the NVIDIA 9600) and on a wireless network (they say SL is not optimized for this, but with Airport and a good cable connection, I have no trouble streaming music and running SL with voice on two other comps–all wireless). I get framerates of about 20-35 fps regularly, though in heavy traffic, near lots of bad scripts, and/or with a lot of avs nearby, it can quickly drop. I often think about getting a high-end pc with a fancy SL-optimized graphics card, but only because the Mac Pro desktop that I covet is wayyyy out of my price range.
But I NEVER have any of the problems you describe. The only glitches I encounter are SL crashes that are due to the viewer programming and not the OS (I’m running 10.4.11 atm). Any time you want to compare notes or write about your half-mac or new Mac, I’ll be reading.
Great rant.
@Alex: Yeah, sounds reasonable you didn’t run into any of them, you use a Mac, the friendly type of computers
. And, thanks for reading the posts here! I’m kinda lacking readers and commenters, can you refer the blog to some friends? Thanks in advance
.
P.S.: Have a Habbo account? I can’t use Second Life, so Habbo currently supplies my “daily fix”. I’m ShadowTSL there
.
You do realise those tools are unsupported and may break stuff? It says so fairly clearly on the appropriate webpages.
I think you’ll find it equally easy to find tools to break a mac.
Kathy, the Power Tools I use have no way to harm Windows in how harmed it is now, and, proved by experiments, the more you use Windows, the more it harms itself, or simply put, the installation “collects mold”. (I say mold because dust you can clean easily in a second, while mold requires some biological engineering to clean it and its remains, and takes longer
.) I can testify for this, as my other PC which has almost NOTHING in software, takes much longer to display the desktop than before.
Oh and I forgot to mention, the Power Tools I use are not software that embed into Windows, they simply flip a switch in the Registry. Not like the others I saw in Microsoft’s website.
I love how the vast majority of your arguments are completely disconnected from what you’re trying to argue.
And I have proof that OS X installs “collect mould” as well - my old PPC mac is near unusable, despite there having been no change.
Please phrase your argument coherently next time. This goes for the “SLart” post as well, which I was writing a response too before I decided I’d just be ignored anyway.
Kathy, I meant the current installation, not dust on the computer itself or parts wearing out. I mean, that if I backup, format, reinstall, restore, and use again with the exact same resources, the computer will function as good as new. And, sorry for not “phrasing my argument coherently”, my English level is non-native, non-university professional and consists of the American version of English and only several parts of british English, y’know
.
PC sucks? Nope, mine is fine, thank you.
Oh, that software you use?…. *looks him sadly* well… PC with *that* software does suck.
