I need people! And comments!

I don’t have statistics, but judging by the low number of, *clears throat*, 0 comments per post1 , I need you readers to start commenting, even if it’s a discussion about it, and bring in more people to this teen-resident’s blog.

Please? Pretty please?

P.S.: Second Lounge News is now being set up, i’ll soon make a post!

  1. Except Vint’s once in a while… THANKS! ;) . []

Sick of spam

I’m sick of spam comments! I hate using my mobile bandwidth when i’m away to mark the comments as spam, or waste my time when home :???: . So, I headed on to DynamicDrive.com , my best friend for everything Java, JavaScript and AJAX (and yes, I know AJAX uses JavaScript as well, not stupid :P ), and headed to .htaccess (the file that controls access to that directory. Enables your-domain.com/blog-post-so-called-slug for most blogging applications) thingies. I have regular IP (Internet Protocol address) spammers, about three, so I wrote ‘em down in the box, got the code, saved, and voila! I shouldn’t be getting spam at all. These bots shouldn’t even see my blog! :P .

If you have the same issues, look in your email for some IPs (and keep the list going), head over to Dynamic Drive’s ban-by-IP-in-.htaccess-file wizard , paste ‘em in the box (seperate by a line break), generate the code, head on to your server’s file manager, edit the .htaccess file on the directory where you encounter spam (my blog for instance), insert the code snippet, save, and voila! They will now be banned.

I beat the crap out of spam bots!

I recently get annoying human-like spam comments, that I can identify by a known bug in ANY program: apostrophes fail to format well, meaning they say “…regarding s Blog…” instead of “…regarding Smiley’s Blog…”, plus, it doesn’t “regard my blog”, it is my blog! :???: So, no matter what, spammers will nevah get me! MUHAHAHAH–*clears throat* yay.

Blog now compatible with iPhone and iPod touch!

From now on, when browsing on an iPhone or iPod Touch-optimized Safari browser, you will see the blog in a redesigned, tidy, format. You can try it by using an iPhone or iPod Touch, or by doing the following steps: (good for testing any web app for iPhone/iPod Touch — method works only with Firefox)

  1.  Go to about:config
  2. Right click > New… > String and name it “general.useragent.override”
  3. Paste in the value dialog the following text: “Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420+ (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/1A543a Safari/419.3″
  4. Browse to a page of your liking. If it has a version optimized for iPhone or iPod Touch, it will show it instead.

To undo it:

  1. Go to about:config
  2. Write in the search field “general.useragent.override”
  3. Right-click the result and select (not sure about the text in english, could be: ) “Delete”, “Format”, “Erase”, “Remove”, etc.
  4. Continue browsing…

Once you do the first set of steps, recheck the blog homepage :-).

New “Smiley’s Blog” Logo undergoing work

Why yes, that is the real me and my sister! ;) . I’m doing the every-1-to-3-months logo change, including fresh new pictures, a new tagline, and maybe some new colors. The new tagline is as simple as pie. “Here for fun :-)”. Reminds me of the Playstation 3 tagline, “This is Living”… ANYWAY… The logo is still undergoing work, as I need a snapshot of my World of Warcraft character to put in the block where the sunset is. I want you readers to see my every persona, including real self, but sadly, I have no room for Habbo Hotel. But maybe i’ll just put my small pixelated self somewhere on the logo… Hmm…

Plus, i’m planning to change my “virtual company” ’s name. Vint was right, Xenon does sound weird… Maybe Shadow Productions? Hmm…

So, tell me what you think about the new logo so far! :) .
